Do I need to know how to swim to try scuba diving?

Accepted Answer

No. Scuba diving in the Andamans doesn't require you to be an expert or a swimmer. Our PADI Discover Scuba Diving programme accommodates non-swimmers — you will be taught the basic safety guidelines and skills required, and a PADI-certified instructor will be with you at all times during your dive.

How long does it take to complete the PADI Advanced Open Water Course?

Accepted Answer

The PADI Advanced Open Water Course usually takes about 2 to 3 days to complete. The duration depends on the dive centre and their scheduling of adventure dives. The overall course comprises 5 adventure dives, inclusive of three elective dives, a necessary underwater navigation dive, and one deep dive. Knowledge development can be completed in a classroom setting or via eLearning.

Do I have to carry my own scuba diving equipment for the courses?

Accepted Answer

It is not compulsory to bring your own equipment. A majority of resorts and dive centres provide students with rental equipment including tanks, regulators, masks, fins and wetsuits. We suggest you consider buying your own fins, snorkel and mask for better comfort and proper fitting, but it is not required.

Can beginners and non-swimmers dive at Johnny's Gorge?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately no. Unlike many dive sites at Havelock Island, Johnny's Gorge can be accessed only by experienced divers who hold an advanced-level scuba certification. The dive is very deep, and the water current can vacillate between light and strong, making it suitable only for advanced divers.

Can children with disabilities participate in the PADI programs?

Yes. PADI-certified instructors are trained to work with divers with disabilities and can provide adaptive techniques and equipment to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, including for children in the PADI Bubblemaker program.

What certification will I receive upon completing a specialty course?

Accepted Answer

You receive the corresponding PADI specialty certification card — for example, upon completing the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer course you will receive a PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty certification card.
